Here are two indications that a motel is the right accommodation for your next holiday.

You have an extremely full itinerary

If the place you're visiting has many attractions and you're hoping to visit lots of them whilst you're there, then you should book a motel room. If you're going to be out exploring all day long and you will, therefore, probably be too exhausted at the end of each day to do anything more than take a bath and fall into bed, then spending money on a hotel that has lots of fancy facilities (and whose room fees reflect this) would be wasteful.

If for example, if you're going to be out taking a tour of a local vineyard and then attending a wine-tasting that will take up most of the day, then you're not going to have time to have treatments at the hotel spa or to relax by the hotel pool. As such, it makes more sense to opt for safe, clean and inexpensive accommodation in the form of a motel, which does not have luxury facilities that you won't have time to use.

You're going on a road trip and want to keep your stays in accommodation short and sweet

If you're going on a road trip and want to maximise the time you spend driving along, enjoying the scenery and stopping off at as many local attractions as possible, then it follows that you would probably want to minimise the time you spend travelling to and staying in your accommodation.

If this is the case, then a motel could be the right accommodation for you. Most motels are typically located on or near motorways. This means that you can quickly and easily stop off at a motel whilst you're travelling on a motorway, instead of having to take your vehicle into a city or town centre (where there is likely to be a lot of traffic that will slow you down), locate a hotel and find a place to park (a process which could take an hour or so, if traffic is heavy).

You can just turn off whatever motorway is nearest to a suitable motel and head straight to the reception desk to get the keys to your room. Likewise, when you're ready to set off again the following morning, you can do this easily, without having to weave through traffic in a busy city or town before you can get to the motorway and continue with your road trip. Keep these things in mind as you look for accommodations
